anywho he just got a fun new toy - its a brompton! they are kinda the coolest folding bikes ever. they even have a brompton bike race - the first one in the usa is gonna be this march in philly, i think he;s gonna do it! in 2008 his sister actually came in 3rd at the Smithfield Nocturne and won best dressed female - for which the prize was a bespoke bowler helmet presented by Paul Smith. then in 2009 she competed in the BWC - the brompton world championship - where her best dressed title was usurped by another (i do not think better dressed) lady...

adam took me to the loveliest restaurant last night called Katja in the lower east side. it was sooooooooo yummy!!! we had the sausage sampler - which has 3 different types of sausage, pork belly (one of mah faves!) sauerkraut, and some of the most buttery and melt in your mouth dumplings ive ever had!! dude, it was so good! and real reasonable in price too! we each had some big draft beers AND the best desert! warm chocolate cake with orange marmalade (they call it marmalade, i call it zesty orange orgasm) and a big scoop of schlag! for those of you who dont know, schlag is homemade whipped cream that is both dense and airy at the same time - i have one girlfriend who is so obsessed with the stuff that when she goes to Peter Luger she gets a to-go cup to bring home with her! (and the bitch is skinny so she can do that haha)

oh, and the waitress really liked my Rabid Fox ring, but obvs who wouldnt?!

i also learned this this morning. please dont use pvc shower curtains! you will harm yourself! it is actually incredibly dangerous, the "smell" that comes from the pvc is actually about 108 different gasses that have been shown to: "PVC shower curtains contain many harmful chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), phthalates and organotins. Toxic chemical off-gassing from PVC shower curtains may contribute to respiratory irritation, damage to the central nervous system, liver and kidney, nausea, headaches and loss of coordination."

Be assured that you can be cured of your difficulty. Many have been, both male and female, and you can be also if you determine that it must be so.

A Guide to Self-Control:

1. Never touch the intimate parts of your body except during normal toilet processes.

2. Avoid being alone as much as possible. Find good company and stay in this good company.

3. If you are associated with other persons having this same problem, YOU MUST BREAK OFF THEIR FRIENDSHIP. Never associate with other people having the same weakness. Don't suppose that two of you will quit together, you never will. You must get away from people of that kind. Just to be in their presence will keep your problem foremost in your mind. The problem must be taken OUT OF YOUR MIND for that is where it really exists. Your mind must be on other and more wholesome things.

4. When you bathe, do not admire yourself in a mirror. Never stay in the bath more than five or six minutes -- just long enough to bathe and dry and dress AND THEN GET OUT OF THE BATHROOM into a room where you will have some member of your family present.

5. When in bed, if that is where you have your problem for the most part, dress yourself for the night so securely that you cannot easily touch your vital parts, and so that it would be difficult and time consuming for you to remove those clothes. By the time you started to remove protective clothing you would have sufficiently controlled your thinking that the temptation would leave you.

Suggestions:

1. Pray daily, ask for the gifts of the Spirit, that which will strengthen you against temptation. Pray fervently and out loud when the temptations are the strongest.

3. When the temptation to masturbate is strong, yell STOP to those thoughts as loudly as you can in your mind and then recite a prechosen Scripture or sing an inspirational hymn. It is important to turn your thoughts away from the selfish need to indulge.

9. Make a pocket calendar for a month on a small card. Carry it with you, but show it to no one. If you have a lapse of self control, color the day black. Your goal will be to have no black days. The calendar becomes a strong visual reminder of self control and should be looked at when you are tempted to add another black day. Keep your calendar up until you have at least three clear months.

12. During your toileting and shower activities leave the bathroom door or shower curtain partly open, to discourage being alone in total privacy. Take cool brief showers.

15. Reduce the amount of spices and condiments in your food. Eat as lightly as possible at night.

16. Wear pajamas that are difficult to open, yet loose and not binding.

19. In very severe cases it may be necessary to tie a hand to the bed frame with a tie in order that the habit of masturbating in a semi-sleep condition can be broken. This can also be accomplished by wearing several layers of clothing which would be difficult to remove while half asleep.

21. Do not let yourself return to any past habit or attitude patterns which were part of your problem. Satan Never Gives Up. Be calmly and confidently on guard. Keep a positive mental attitude. there is a really great movie my photographer friend Rene Micheli lent me called Eyes of Laura Mars. i defs recomend it! its a slasher movie with Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones (young Tommy Lee Jones oooh yes) that is about a fashion photographer who starts to see murders as they are happening thru the eyes of the killer. the costumes are amazing, and it is also pretty cool to see manhattan in 1978. so different than what it is like now! soho? try don't go, ho. haha

Whiskey and Nachos!

so i have been obsessing over the combo of whiskey and nachos sinse thanksgiving, when it first occured to me durring my travels to RI... i have to tell you, it did NOT dissapoint! at all.

so last night was the super bowl. i am not a sports fan, but last nights game was a true testament to a well played game! the saints were phenomenal, and new orleans could not deserve a win more. i went to my good friends home, where the party was pants optional. everyone brought some good ole fashion american heart clogging food! there was spicy meatballs, deviled eggs (cheddar and bacon style!) home made mac n cheese, stuffed potato skins, spicy italian sausage and peppers, pulled chicken nachos (obvs), and some of the best chili i have ever had. ever. there was no ground beef, instead there were massive hunks of steak that were so tender they melted in your mouth! o.m.g. dammit.

hey! friends! you know how i said i was leaving brooklyn and going to philly? well, they say there is a lot o snow coming and i got scared. the truth is, i dont want to die. yk? i dont think that is that bad...

i was able to work on my new illustration! huuuzaah! i made the ensemble on thursday, which explains the name... i think this would be a perfect weekday outfit. it is very chic and not try hard at all.. i am obsessed with any (every) type of harem/jodper/drop crotch pant out there and this psir from Oak is no exception! unfortunatly (or fortunatly for my wallet) they are sold out. so i just get to draw them. i hope you enjoy it! i am working on another one now, so i may have it done before i head over to the neon indian show at market hotel tonight.

Topstitch Fashion Show!

as you may know, i helped put on a fashion show in December at Mar Bar in Philadelphia. the whole night was a blast! sexy ladies everywhere dressed in one of a kind pieces from the Holiday 2009 Topstitch Boutique collection. i was so proud to be a part of it, everyone really worked hard to make the evening incredible, and it really payed off in the end! the other day i was going through an article of clothing that i havent worn in a while. (for those of you who dont know, i have a massive closet! heeheehee mebs ill show you sometime ;) ) anywho, i was going through this jacket, and out of the pocket i found a lighter. the thing is is that it is not just any lighter. this particular bic is 11 years old. i had it when i was in high school. with me it has been: goth, a raver (yeah ill admit it - bet im still a better dancer than you! oh!) a college student, skinny and single, and now soft and engaged! (should i try to find embaressing pics of me through all of these stages? prolly! when i go to RI next month and visit mah mom mebs i can find some for you guys!) i cannot believe it. this lighter used to have a wrapper on it - multi colored print. that came off after sometime. now it has a magnetic strip on it. and it is still a quarter of the way full! it has come and go for the last 11 years, from RI to showing up in philly when i least expect it and then now! after living in ny for 3 and a half years!!! ok. ill stop. i still think its pretty cool tho hahahaha

this is an illustration i did of my friend naeem while he was performing at Fabric in london.. it was a fun night, even tho i twisted my ankle after i had to jump off the stage in 6" heels. man. i actually had to walk with a cane for a few days after that. it wouldve been cooler if there was a sword hidden in the cane, but i wasnt that lucky. anyway, here.

An Afternoon in Richmond

We went to Richmond for an afternoon, the area is very posh and fun for site seeing. They have a very beautiful park in the centre, where they keep 2 different types of deer as well as many other types of wild life that you can walk right up to. its a wonderful little escape in the centre of a bussling town. At certain times of the year the hunters come in and cull the deer, durring that time the butchers in the area are chock full of fresh venison. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. After the park, we headed to the river to see a boat race and grab a cleansing pint of ale, twas a fun day to be sure!

An English Rose

When Adam and i get married in 2011, i plan on having the flowers reflect the different places we have lived, both individually and together. i think that it will be a beautiful representation of the union we are creating as a couple and as 2 families coming together. Adam's mother has an allotment right down the street from their home in Surbiton, and one of the gardeners has a massive amount of flowers spilling from his section. These photos are from both the allotment as well as from a small town in Kent.

Thinking of Summer on a cold day - UK Scapes

These are some landscape photos i took during my last trip to London... the ones in this post are all from outside the city from different day trips we took. We traveled to several different areas - Dungeness, which is a lunar wasteland by the sea, and Oxford, home of Oxford University and Harry Potter (facepalm). Dungeness is absolutely stunning, like no where else i have been. The beaches are covered in pebbles and small stones smoothed by the tumbling of the waves, and here and there you can see small tufts of Sea Kale. The fish and chips are to die for and they have a mini steam train that was built to the exact specifications of a regular size train - just mini! There is also a nuclear power plant, ominous in the background as people fish into the sea...

Even tho i am marrying into a Cambridge family, Adam and i spent a lovely day wandering around the streets of Oxford, taking in the sights and even having a spot of high tea - scrumptious! The architecture in the city is absolutely breath taking and made even more so by the tumultuous skies. Also, it is so amazing, especially for an American, do be in such an old city, even the pubs make one feel as if they have been transported back in time....

well, i am in london, i just arrived this morning, 3am our time, 8am on this side of the pond. we are getting ready for our engagement party, which i will post some photos from - anna, adam's mother, has quite a green thumb, so the garden is just lush with green and red and purple and yellow. there is also an allotment down the road which is where most of the veggies come from.. we just visited it today and gathered hand fulls of blackberries, tomatoes and greens.

the weather is lovely here also - my favorite kind - LAYERING WEATHER! i've brought tons of pretty frocks to pair with my mink stole, floral print scarves and ivory trench. i've also brought a whole bunch of '90s style clothes - black jersey dress, floral leggings, denim vest etc! as soon as i can i will upload all of my photos and show you!

this week i plan on going to quite a few museums, we are going to see a Tom Stoppard play (Arcadia), the Ham House (best example of Stuart mansion in UK), and since it is adam's birthday i plan to take him out for a fun night of eating, drinking and debauchery.

well, i must run and help my fambilie get ready for the party, the scents of amazing food are wafting up from the kitchen!

hihi so here is a corn salsa recipe that i made up. i thought it would be fun to illustrate it and make it into a recipe card. the photos are of the corn salsa and then as part of a really easy huevos rancheros - make some nachos, over easy some eggs n pop the corn salsa on top - voile!

hi

so it has been a while, like 2 years almost since i last posted. i apologize interwebs, i have not forsaken you! so. a lot has happened in the last year. got a corporate job. hated my job. kept my job. got promoted. got sent to europe. job got worse. got laid off. and now i am here, trying out my own way. i HAVE to make it this time or i will have to go back to an office where my head will explode. so. i will do this. i will make it awesome - because i am awesome - and because i know what IS awesome. so. this blog will be about: fashion, fashion illustrations - both done by me and done by others (WWD had a really great story about Danny Roberts the phenomenal fashion illustrator behind Igor + Andre - i just saw today and i am totes OBSESSED! also, we have the same favorite artist: Egon Schiele) it will be about sewing - right now i am working on a line of accessories that i hope to start selling quite soon at Top Stitch Boutique in philadelphia as well as boutiques in nyc.. what else? i make food! delicious food! and have dinner parties! all on quite a shoe string budget too! so there will be recipies, i've started illustrating some of them, one of those will be posted today...

i dont know. basically, i am going to make this a kind of living diary of me. lifestyle, things im working on, photos from events, fashion, people on the street. i hope its fun for you. i think it will be. okie dokie! here i go!

i saw this while walking down the street... i think that it is amazing - i know others might not agree... the blue in the wings and the different purples go beautifully with the slate and medium grey and i love that the orange peal is there - all in all a fantastic color story! i know it is morbid but i have always been fascinated with dead creatures (in a second hand kinda way- nature lab/ passing one on the street sort of way) the dpi on this camera is really great so you can see the hairs, claws and beak, even the bumpy flesh - and all without having to touch it!

on a side note i just wanted to mention that i really like the composition of this photo as well. i feel that the ground in gum and paint splatters on the sidewalk really move the eye around.

so last night i looked into the fridge, starving already, and there was barely anything in there. this is the way i usually cook. we had a baby eggplant, some corn on the cob a little chicken broth and a little ricotta cheese. the one thing i try to always have are fresh herbs, they make everything better. so the following is what i made with ingredients i scraped together. serves 2-3

1 medium red onion - finely diced
3-4 cloves garlic - chopped
1/8th of a box of orzo
1 corn on the cob - par boiled and then cut off of cob
1 baby eggplant - cubed (not peeled)
2-3 cups broth (i used half chicken half Marmite and hot water because that is what i had)
1/2 a small container ricotta cheese
handful fresh parsley - chopped
1 scallion - chopped
a few pats butter
a few tsp olive oil
sea salt & fresh ground pepper to taste

in a pot boil water and put the shucked corn on the cob in it to cook (about 15 min) chop onions and garlic and saute in butter, pinch of salt and small amount olive oil until onions are transparent. remove from pan and put aside. at this point start heating the broth in a small pot , do not boil and keep covered. heat the pan back up adding another tsp olive oil and lightly brown orzo. mix garlic and onions back in and then start to slowly add some of the broth. you want to have all of the orzo in liquid but not like soup. mix in chopped baby eggplant and corn. add small ladles full of broth when ever it has reduced in half (approx every 5-7 min) and stir often. repeat for 30-45 min or until the orzo is tender. fold in ricotta cheese and a little more salt. plate (or bowl) top with parsley, scallion and fresh ground pepper. enjoy!

Since Adam's sister is coming at the end of the month and will be here for his birthday, I wanted to do something this past weekend for the two of us. I planned a whole day out, starting with a walk through the west village. Saturday was an absolutely stunning day, and we wandered the streets hand in hand. Now, Adam knew that the day was for him, but I wouldn't let on to anything that I had planned. After a few hours in the sun I brought him to the restaurant that I had decided on: A Salt and Battery (http://www.asaltandbattery.com/) It's a tiny little fish n' chips place - with, I have to say, some of the best I've ever eaten! The batter was light and crispy and the cod perfectly flaky. They have HP Sauce on request and their home made tarter sauce is unbelievable! After lunch we wandered some more, acting coy I brought him down to the river walk on the Hudson River. After a while there, we wandered into Chelsea Piers and started wandering around, Adam guessing this or that (and NOT getting it!) until I brought him to a kiosk where we picked up our tickets for a 2 hour cruise on the schooner Imagine. I found the tickets online through www.goldstarevents.com which is free to sign up to and you get huge discounts on all sorts of things. Imagine is an 80 foot schooner and it seats about 48 people; it also has complimentary beer and soda! The sail was absolutely beautiful, we sailed down to Eilis Island- other sailboats, jet skis and ferries floating past. The view was impeccable and the people sitting around us were just lovely. Afterwards we wandered some more in Greenwich Village, and decided to grab a martini or two al fresco. I have to say, we had better ones earlier in the week at Il Bastardo (http://www.ilbastardonyc.com/media/ilbastardo.html) but nothing could dampen our day! We split an appetiser of veal tongue that was served broiled with creme fresh and watercress, and melted in our mouths. For desert we split a delicious raspberry tart with homemade vanilla ice cream. As the night grew late, we made our way back home, a perfect day if I do say so myself.

so i am going to be focusing an entire section of this blog to my nails. this may be a little self indulgent, but it is something that i spend a lot of time on. this segment will be updated every two weeks or so, because that is how often i get them done. right now i have what i am calling safari nails: olive green with white, black and gold hand painting. i am also including a terrible photo of myself with nails i had a few months ago. if you look closely, you can see that my nails are done the way Jessica Stam's are in the new Dior campaign, only i had them probably about the time this ad was shot, not printed.

coney island we will miss you

just in case you haven't heard, Coney Island will be closing at the end of this season to be turned into a "Vegas style theme park." It is unfortunate that not everyone can appreciate the charm of a rickety old amusement park. If you get a chance, go check it out before it's gone...

this morning i decided to make breakfast for my boyfriend and me. a Monte Christo type sandwich and a large salad.

Monte Christo:
1 loaf stale Italian bread cut into thick slices
1 tsp ground ground red pepper
1 tbs pure vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk/ soy milk
3 slices no nitrate bacon
3 slices Swiss cheese
pure maple syrup to taste

Summer Salad
large handful watercress
medium handful cilantro
1/2 yellow bell pepper - cut into strips
1 vine tomato - cut into 1/8ths
1 large radish - thinly sliced
handful baby carrots - quartered
1/8 cucumber - thinly sliced and cut in half
1/4 red onion - finely chopped
1 scallion - chopped
1/2 lime
2-3 tablespoons olive oil
sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste

beat red pepper, vanilla, 2 eggs and milk together in large bowl. place all pieces of bread into mixture and allow to soak while preparing the other parts. Next cook bacon in a large skillet. After it is cooked place on a paper towel to drain. Pour the grease from the bacon into a clean container, leaving a little in the pan. Flip the bread in the mixture and begin to prepare the salad. Thoroughly rinse watercress and cilantro in colander, tear into bite size bits and as you do mix the cilantro and watercress; plate. Next, place the yellow pepper, tomato slices and carrots in a radial pattern. On the edges place the cucumber slices, if they are cut thin enough you can make them look like petals. In the center, place the radishes and scatter the red onion and scallion over everything. Salt and pepper over everything, squeeze lime and drizzle olive oil over top. Set aside, the flavors will combine while everything else is prepared. In the skillet, heat small amount of bacon grease till extremely hot and place slices of soaked bread in it. Cook on each side for about 5-6 minutes pressing occasionally with a spatula; cook till each side is golden brown and slightly firm. Place slices on a plate, layer bacon and a piece of Swiss cheese on two pieces then another piece of bread, more bacon and a half slice of cheese; put into oven at 250 degrees to melt cheese. Pour a small amount of bacon grease into skillet and bring temperature back to "high." Crack each of the other two eggs and fry over easy, salt and pepper to taste. When eggs are done take bread out of the oven and plate individually. Pour maple syrup over layered bread, bacon and cheese. Place an egg on top of each and then place the end piece in top. Serve hot and enjoy!
